Lake Country Pickleball Club (LCPC) PARTICIPANT'S WAIVER
RELEASE, PERMISSION, AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT
Release. In consideration of being permitted to participate in any way in the LCPC Pickleball Events, I, for myself, my heirs or assigns, hereby release, waive, discharge and covenant not to sue Lake Country Pickleball Club (LCPC), its officers, agents, or tournament/event organizers from liability from any and all claims resulting in personal injuries, accidents or illnesses (including death) and property loss arising from, but not limited to, participation in the Events.
Assumption of Risk. Participation in the LCPC Pickleball Events carries with it certain inherent risks that cannot be eliminated regardless of the care taken to avoid injuries. The specific risks include, but are not limited to: 1) minor injuries such as bruises, sprains and dehydration, 2) major injuries such as eye injuries, joint or back injuries, heat stroke, heart attacks, and concussions, and 3) catastrophic injuries such as paralysis and death.
I have read the previous paragraphs and I know, understand and appreciate these and other risks that are inherent in playing pickleball. I assert that my participation is voluntary and that I knowingly assume all such risks.
Indemnification and Hold Harmless. I also agree to indemnify and hold the LCPC and all named above harmless from any and all claims, actions, suits, costs, expenses, damages and liabilities, including attorney’s fees brought as a result of my involvement in the LCPC Pickleball Events.
Use Permission. I also give LCPC and its agents and designees permission to use or distribute, without limitation or obligation, my image, name, voice, and words for any purpose connected with club events, including promotional, marketing, training, informational, and archival uses.
Code of Conduct
Conduct yourself in a courteous and respectful manner both on the courts and when observing others playing while awaiting your turn. Remember that the goal is to provide an environment where all players can play the game to the best of their ability and most importantly “have fun” while doing so. Model good behavior, lead by example, display respect, and show self-control.
Every player involved in LCPC pickleball pledges as follows:
- I will not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct or encourage others to do so.
- I will not engage in any behavior that would endanger the health, safety or well-being of others.
- I will not engage in the use of profanity.
- I will treat the facility, equipment, and others with respect.
- I will exhibit fairness and honesty in my dealings with others.
- I will observe the Golden Rule of doing unto others as I would have them do unto me.
- I will always remember that pickleball is a game, and I am playing it to have FUN.
Failure to abide by this Code may result in disciplinary action having to be taken by the LCPC. Significant violations of this Code should be reported to the Board.
Court Etiquette
- Everyone was (or is) a beginner at one time. Everyone appreciates the time given to “assist” all levels of players with rules, set up, specific plays, etc. If you are an “advanced” player, please adjust your style when playing with beginners – work on your short game, work on ball placement. Mentor and offer advice kindly and with discretion. Do not intimidate weaker players or dominate a game. Play to have fun.
- During LCPC times that are open to all skill levels, higher numbered courts (8, 9 and 10) are for advanced players (recommended for those skilled 4.0 and above), and Court 1, 2 and 3 are for newer or less advanced players (less than 3.0). If you are unsure of your level, start at the lower courts and move up as you feel comfortable and win the majority of games. Even with these dedicated courts, there will still be games with skill level differences in the middle courts (4, 5, 6 and 7). In these cases, please refer to the first etiquette point.
- On completion of the first game on a court, losers of the match must vacate the court. Winners may stay on the court, but are expected to split up for the next game. For all games thereafter, players who have been on the court for 2 games must vacate the court to allow for players who have been waiting to play.
- Recognize and compliment your partner and opponents when they make good shots. Apologize for bad or inappropriate remarks immediately.
- Call out the score every time you serve so that your opponents can hear the score. Call out your score first, then the opponents score and, finally, if you are the first server or the second server.
When playing at Westover,
- Set up the nets, and help take them down and pack them away at the end of the session. Gather up the balls during and after play.
- Do not chase the ball into another court. Call “ball” immediately when your stray ball rolls onto another court. When retrieving a stray ball, it is best not to walk onto a neighboring court. When a ball rolls onto your court, stop play immediately. Pick the ball up, look to see where it came from, make eye contact, and return it.
- Do not walk behind an active volley. Wait for the end of the volley to cross behind the court.
